Privacy Guard extension and backend service - Effective date: May 7, 2026
Overview
This policy explains what data the Privacy Guard browser extension collects and how it is processed
when detecting potential Data Privacy Act violations. The backend service is hosted at
https://privacy-guard-j87w.onrender.com.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the
Limited Use requirements.
Data we collect
Typed text that the extension analyzes in web form inputs.
File content selected for analysis, including text extracted from PDF or Word files.
Page URL where a scan occurred (stored locally as part of scan history).
Detection aggregates (counts of entity types and severity levels).
Performance metrics (timing data for analysis requests).
Anonymous instance ID (random UUID not linked to your Google account).
How data is processed
Typed text and file content are sent to the backend API over HTTPS for NER and sentiment analysis.
For documents, the file is uploaded to the backend for text extraction and analysis.
Analysis results are returned to the extension to display warnings or allow submission.
Who receives data
Data is sent only to the Privacy Guard backend server hosted on Render at
https://privacy-guard-j87w.onrender.com. We do not share data with third parties.
Data retention
Local scan history is stored in your browser and retained for 7, 30, or 90 days based on your settings.
No content is stored; only detection aggregates and performance metrics are retained until deleted by admin.
No sale or advertising use
We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising or marketing.
Anonymous instance IDs
The extension generates an anonymous instance ID to support aggregate analytics. This ID is not linked
to your Google account and does not identify you.
Your choices
You can change retention settings in the extension and clear scan history at any time.
You can disable or uninstall the extension to stop all collection and processing.
